I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 6+ years of experience in mental health. I have experience working in the Emergency Room, Psychiatric Hospital, Alcohol & Drug Rehab units, Geriatric Psych Units, Community Clinics, and Psychiatric Home Health allowing me to provide care that keeps into consideration what happens before, during, and after a mental health crisis.
I am American-Samoan and a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
I have moved around quite a bit and my combat tours helped shed light on the importance of mental health within the Veteran population. The Army helped to shape who I am today. The sense of duty and honor were part of my culture and the Army helped to solidify these pillars of life.
My Samoan background allows me to understand the clash of cultures. It is not an easy task to figure out how to fit in. How do I define myself? Which culture is relevant? It's been a struggle my whole life. I love being Samoan and I love being an American. What I have learned over the years is that I don't have to pick. I can be both. I am both.
When I’m not in the office I like to read, play video games, hangout with family and friends, play with my dogs, watch movies, or travel. I love to read about cultures. It almost led me down the path of becoming an anthropologist until I read about Margaret Mead and her trek through Polynesia. IYKYK. Video games are fun and I am learning to like those who own playstations. I still have a long way to go. XBox gamers unite! My family mean everything to me. I love them and cannot imagine a world without them. Dogs tend to find me. Friends and family have asked me to care for them and I can't refuse. My house turns into a retirement home for dogs. Traveling is therapeutic for me because I get to glimpse into the local culture.
